PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Brea Olinda Beats Valencia, Wins Share of Title

Brea Olinda earned a share of the Orange League baseball title by defeating Valenica, 3-2, in eight innings Friday at Brea.

Brandon Maciel scored from second on a throwing error in the eighth for the victory.

The Wildcats (11-4 in league) finish tied for first with Magnolia. But Brea Olinda beat Magnolia two of three times and will receive the league’s No. 1 position in the playoffs. Valencia is third.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 14, St. Michael’s Prep 0 (5)--John Church pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one for league-champion Liberty Christian (14-4, 9-0). Church went two for three with two runs batted in.

Capistrano Valley Christian 6, St. Margaret’s 5--Jason Jarvis had three hits with two RBIs and four stolen bases as Capistrano Valley Christian (7-11, 5-4) earned its first playoff berth in nine seasons.

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 7, Santa Ana 1--Joel Ramirez gave up two hits and struck out six for host Saddleback (7-18, 3-12). Ramirez had two hits, one run scored and one RBI, and Eddie Mejia had two doubles, two runs and one RBI for Saddleback.

Ocean View 5, Westminster 4--Jason Hoffman hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Corey Carr gave up four runs and seven hits for visiting Ocean View (9-16, 4-10).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 9, Marina 5--Travis Clutter was three for four with two doubles and two RBIs and pitched the last three innings to earn his fourth victory for Edison (10-15, 4-11).

Los Alamitos 8, Huntington Beach 1--Kevin Feterik, Curt McGaughe and Jared Jones each had two hits and Brad Cresse hit his 10th home run for Los Alamitos (10-15, 5-10).
