PREP SOFTBALL / SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Davie’s Three-Run Homer Stuns Foothill

Cathy Davie’s three-run homer--the second ever to go over the fence at Foothill’s home field--stunned top-seeded Foothill, which lost to Westlake Village Westlake, 3-2, in the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals Thursday.

Davie’s third-inning blast off Marie Gieron (20-3) prevented the Knights (23-3) from playing in their second consecutive final and fourth in five years.

Westlake (24-6) plays fourth-seeded Marina in the semifinals Tuesday.

In a Division II quarterfinal:

Woodbridge 6, Long Beach Millikan 3 (13)--Carrie Brown had an RBI single and Lindsay Cohan added a two-run single in the 13th as Woodbridge (22-9) upset No. 2 Millikan (24-10).

Lizzie Lemire had a two-run triple, and then tripled and scored in the 13th. Woodbridge will play Santa Fe Springs St. Paul on Tuesday.

In a Division III quarterfinal:

Savanna 4, Moreno Valley Canyon Springs 2--Jacque Gonzalez had two hits and two RBIs for host Savanna (19-7), which plays Whittier La Serna.

Redondo Beach Redondo Union 1, Magnolia 0 (15)--Fourth-seeded Redondo Union (25-3) plays unseeded Upland in the semifinals; Magnolia finished 17-9-1.

In a Division VI quarterfinal:

Boron 8, St. Margaret’s 0--Gina Arreola singled in the fourth for St. Margaret’s (11-9) only hit. Boron (22-1) has outscored playoff opponents, 34-0.
