PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Calvary Chapel Reaches Semifinals
Calvary Chapel had only five hits but manufactured enough runs to beat Phelan Serrano, 5-1, in a Southern Section Division V baseball quarterfinal game Friday at Calvary Chapel.
Calvary Chapel scored in the fourth inning when Joe Delafuente singled in Gabe Gerhardt. Josh Stewart scored the Eagles’ second run on a wild pitch.
The Eagles scored three more in the fifth. They will play Santa Monica St. Monica on Tuesday.
In Division VI baseball:
La Verne Lutheran 6, Liberty Christian 5--With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the seventh, La Verne Lutheran’s Matt Peterson sliced a two-strike pitch to right field, just out of the reach of a diving Mike Winters, driving in two and eliminating the Minutemen.
