Track and field

Track records are usually broken by small margins, but Pugmire shattered the Orange County record in the 3,200 meters by nearly 14 seconds in winning the event at the section Masters meet Friday. Pugmire won in 10 minutes 14.48 seconds, breaking Carrie Garritson’s 1992 record of 10:28.20. Pugmire, who will attend Brigham Young, did it 90 minutes after winning the 1,600 in 4:48.69.

* Garden Grove. Won both girls’ doubles matches to help the Argonauts to a 10-9 victory over top-seeded Alhambra Keppel for the Division I title. Garden Grove stopped Keppel’s 115-match winning streak.

Softball

Jacque Gonzalez

* Savanna, junior. Had two hits and two runs batted in as Savanna beat Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, 4-2, in the Division III quarterfinals.

Michelle Schneider

* Los Alamitos, senior. Tripled and eventually scored in a 1-0 victory over Pacifica in the Division I quarterfinals. Had a single, double and tripled and scored twice in a 2-0 victory over Canyon.

Track and field

Ashley Bethel

* Mission Viejo, freshman. Set the country record in the 100 hurdles, winning the event in 14.27 seconds at the Southern Section Masters meet.
