SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Woodbridge rallied from one-run deficits in the middle innings and went on to defeat Santa Fe Springs St. Paul, 7-4, in a Division II semifinal softball game Tuesday at Heritage Park.

The Warriors will have to wait until today to find out who they will play in the final. La Mirada and Lakewood were tied, 0-0, when the game was suspended in the 12th inning. That game will resume at 3:15 p.m. at Del Valle Park in Lakewood.

Trailing, 4-3, in the fifth, Woodbridge loaded the bases on singles by Lisa Weaver and Lizzy Lemire and a walk to Lolita Harper. Senior Carrie Brown then grounded a 3-2 pitch up the middle, scoring Weaver and Lemire.

“We have a tendency to get behind sometimes and, fortunately, we have a tendency to get back ahead,” Woodbridge Coach Alan Dugard said.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the third when Ashley Boone lined a shot over right fielder Sarah Duarte’s head and the sophomore first baseman circled the bases before St. Paul got the ball back into the infield.

The Swordsmen (29-5) came back with two in their half of the fourth on a one-out infield single, an error by Brown on a possible double-play ball and a two-run triple by Stephanie Senteno.

A costly St. Paul error gave Woodbridge the lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Harper opened with a sharp single to center and Brown laid down a sacrifice, which first baseman Gina Monte fielded and threw past Andi Villegas who was covering first. The ball trickled down the right-field line and Harper and Brown scored for a 3-2 Woodbridge lead.

Woodbridge freshman Christy Robitaille (20-5) got the victory.
