Man Kills Girlfriend, Shoots Self as Son Watches, Officers Say
A man shot and killed his girlfriend and critically wounded himself after an argument inside an El Monte motel room early Sunday morning as the couple’s 11-year-old son looked on, authorities said.
An argument between Ricky Wilson and Peggy Ann Prough, both 30, broke out about 5:45 a.m. and was followed by gunfire in what Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators were calling a murder-suicide attempt.
The couple’s son was unharmed and placed with his grandmother in Riverside, Deputy Jim Hellmond said.
Wilson was undergoing surgery and was listed in very critical condition at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
The three had been staying at the Econo Inn Motel on North Garvey Avenue since their arrival from Chicago several weeks ago.
