Rodriguez, a four-year member of the Sonora varsity, showed his mettle last week. In the Division II semifinals, he pitched a five-hitter in the Raiders’ 9-3 victory over Temecula Valley to improve his record to 9-0. “We give him the ball and expect him to win,” Sonora co-Coach John Link said. Rodriguez also got Sonora’s first hit of the game, a leadoff home run in the fourth inning to tie the score, 1-1. He was two for four with an RBI in Sonora’s 7-2 victory over San Luis Obispo in the final.

Baseball

C.J. Livernois

* La Quinta, senior. Had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs in the Aztecs’ 8-4 victory over Santa Margarita in the Division III title game.

Roger Pechuls

* Fountain Valley, junior. Had four hits, three RBIs and two runs in a 14-7 victory over La Puente Bishop Amat for the Division I title.

John Tucker

* Calvary Chapel, freshman. Pitched a six-hitter in a 10-4 victory over Santa Monica St. Monica in the Division V semifinals. Pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save in a 4-2 victory over Long Beach St. Anthony in the final.

Track and Field

Bryan Harrison

* Dana Hills, sophomore. Won the State title in the 200 meters in a wind-aided 20.82 seconds, the county’s fastest time under any conditions. He is the first State sprint champion from the county since 1973 and also finished third in the 100 meters.
