SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : 5th Youth Charged in Killing of LAPD Detective’s Son
Charges were filed Tuesday against a 17-year-old Thousand Oaks boy in the stabbing death of the son of a Los Angeles police detective, making him the fifth teen-ager charged in the killing.
Murder, attempted murder and robbery charges were filed against the youth, who is to be arraigned today in Sylmar Juvenile Court.
Jimmy Farris, 16, was fatally stabbed May 22 in a “clubhouse.” He was visiting Mike McLoren, 16, who lived in the shed-like structure behind his family’s Agoura Hills home.
Four teen-agers are in custody. In addition to the boy charged Tuesday, they are: a 17-year-old Agoura Hills boy, a 15-year-old Thousand Oaks boy and 18-year-old Brandon Hein of Oak Park. Another suspect, Jason Holland, 18, of Thousand Oaks, is still at large.
Prosecutors say that a fight broke out when the youths tried to steal things from the clubhouse, but defense attorneys contend that the fight was over a marijuana sale.
Sheriff’s detective Bill Neumann said Tuesday that marijuana was found in a locked drawer in the clubhouse.
