Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : 1 Killed, 5 Hurt in Freeway Crash
A 53-year-old Palmdale man was killed and five others were injured when a van they were riding in drove off the Antelope Valley Freeway in Acton and tumbled 35 feet down an embankment, authorities said Wednesday.
Investigators are trying to determine why a minivan driven by Almalou General, 28, of Palmdale, swerved suddenly to the left and then to the right before driving off the freeway Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Siordia said.
Charles Segress, the only passenger not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash just north of Crown Valley Road, Siordia said. General and passengers Rhonda Crites, 43, Julie Miller, 29, Winston Sykes, 36, and John Johnson, 30, all of Palmdale, were taken to local hospitals and treated for minor to moderate injuries.
