FULLERTON : Park’s Pool to Stay Open During Winters
- Share via
Members of the Fullerton Aquatic Swim Team won a victory this week, persuading the City Council to keep Independence Park’s 50-meter pool open year-round.
The council had considered closing the pool during the winter months to save money but was lobbied heavily by swim team supporters not to do so.
At a budget hearing Monday night, council members rejected a recommendation by the city’s Community Services Commission to close the pool during the winter, which would have saved an estimated $25,000. Instead, they instructed the city manager to work with the swim team to come up with a way to make up the $25,000.
Swim team members and their parents say they are already making fund-raising plans, starting with a bid to host the Long Course Junior Olympic Championships in 1996 at Independence Park.
