LEGION ROUNDUP : Sylmar Stopped by Reker

Nick Reker pitched a three-hitter and Alfredo Aleman had four hits to lead Panorama City to a 6-0 victory over Studio City at Sylmar High Wednesday in an American Legion District 20 baseball game.

Reker (2-0) struck out six and walked three for Panorama City (5-0, 5-0 in district play).

Aleman drove in three runs and scored once. His two-run single gave broke a scoreless tie in the second inning.

Sigi Arroyo added two hits and drove in a run for Panorama City.

Woodland Hills West 21, Van Nuys West 4--Cliff Marcus’ first-inning grand slam highlighted a 12-run rally for Woodland Hills West (2-1) in a District 20 game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule at Van Nuys.

Steve Nelson had three hits and drove in three runs for Woodland Hills and Matt Cowie drove in four runs with two hits.

Woodland Hills East 5, Las Virgenes 5--Las Virgenes led, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth, but Brian Menkin led off with a single and Dusty Cook’s two-out hit scored pinch runner Shawn Villalovos in a nine-inning stalemate that will be completed later in the season.

Jesse Chastain scattered eight hits for Woodland Hills East.

Jared Sandler of Las Virgenes allowed 12 hits in eight innings but benefited from two double plays.

Bill Hoover had three singles for Las Virgenes. Menkin singled three times and drove in a run for Woodland Hills East.

Sepulveda 8, Granada Hills East 3--Joe Cohen’s two-run single highlighted a five-run third inning for Sepulveda.

Granada Hills East, playing its first game, allowed four unearned runs that inning. Two runs scored on an error with the bases loaded.

Nick Intenzo had two hits for Granada Hills East.

Brad Warner pitched a seven-hitter for Sepulveda, striking out six.

Antelope Valley South 4, Quartz Hill 3--Kevin Pendelton scored on Jeremy Henderson’s bunt single with one out in the ninth inning to carry Antelope Valley South (3-3) to a District 20 victory at Lancaster.

David Nichols singled, doubled and tripled for Antelope Valley.

Valley North 2, North Hollywood West 1--Micah Berger hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the seventh for Valley North in the District 20 game at Chatsworth High.

North Hollywood West (1-4, 1-4) tied the score, 1-1, in the top of the inning when Edgar Pineda scored on a squeeze bunt by Jerrit Redlich with one out.

Greg Wold (1-0) blew the save in relief of Andrew Silver, but picked up the victory, thanks to Berger’s homer.

Berger and Randy Whitson each had two hits for Valley North (2-1, 2-1).

Glendale 8, Valley South 6--Frank Diaz’s three-run triple gave Glendale a 7-6 lead and capped a five-run sixth in the District 20 game at Birmingham High.

Diaz and Brian Peterson each had two hits for Glendale (5-0, 5-0).

Fernando Centeno had four hits--including a double--two RBIs and two stolen bases for Valley South (4-2, 4-2).
