Four Advance in SCGA Qualifiers

Four players from the region advanced to the Southern California Golf Assn. Amateur Championship in qualifiers at two Southland sites.

Jamey Forsyth of Chatsworth shot an even-par 72 to qualify at the SCGA Member’s Club at Rancho California in Murrieta.

Brian Hull of La Canada shot an even-par 70 to qualify at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates. Yukinori Miyashita of Simi Valley shot 72 and David Saylor of West Hills 74 to advance.

The SCGA Amateur is July 14-16 at Santa Ana Country Club in Newport Beach.

Basketball

Greg Madison, Antelope Valley College assistant basketball coach, has been named the boys’ coach at Littlerock High, Mike Clark, athletic director, said Thursday.

Madison has held various coaching positions with the Marauders the last seven years and coached at West Valley Christian High in 1986.

Madison, 37, replaces Mark Groh, who resigned in April after leading the Lobos to the Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs.

Football

Tim Hilton of Glendale College, a wide receiver and kick returner who played at Glendale High, has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal State Northridge.

Water Polo

Crespi High has named Adam Blakis as its coach for next season.

Blakis, who played and coached at UC Riverside, replaces Jeff Thorton, who resigned to pursue his Master’s degree.

Baseball

The Florida Marlins will hold a post-draft tryout camp at Valley College at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. It is open to all players age 16-22.

Any high school player attending must bring a letter of consent from the principal. American Legion players need a letter of consent from their coach or post commander.

A senior all-star game between the Mission League and Del Rey League will be held at 7 tonight at USC’s Dedeaux Field.

Crespi’s Scott Muckey and Loyola’s Kelly Nicholson are co-coaching the Mission League team.
