Pitcher Wayne Nix of Monroe High says he will not play in the 19th Bernie Milligan All-Star baseball game today at Cal State Northridge.

In the wake of Friday’s storm, perhaps none of the 41 players selected will play in the showcase of area seniors.

A decision is expected at 11 a.m. today as to whether the field has drained sufficiently for the game to be played as scheduled at 3:30.

Nix, who had an 11-2 record and a 0.39 earned-run average for the Vikings this season, was drafted in the fourth round by the Oakland Athletics and signed with them for $97,500 last week.

The West remains strong on the mound with Brandon Cohen (10-0, 0.45) and Jared Sandler (8-1, 1.27), both of Calabasas.

The East, which holds an 11-7 edge in the series, was weakened by the loss of Palmdale catcher Chris Paxton, who has signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

The West lineup includes first baseman George Kassis, outfielder Terrmel Sledge and catcher Kevin Serr of Kennedy, the City Section 4-A Division champion.

Kassis batted .427 with 41 runs batted in. Sledge batted .422 with 18 RBIs.

Serr, whose three-run home run at Dodger Stadium provided the Cougars’ margin of victory in a 3-1 championship victory over Carson, batted .340 with 31 RBIs.

The West also includes Jon Tucker of Chatsworth, who has signed with the Dodgers after batting .370 with 22 RBIs. The team is coached by Manny Alvarado of Kennedy and Scott Drootin of Calabasas.

The East’s ace is Darrell Hussman of Quartz Hill (9-1, 1.14), a 31st-round pick by the Detroit Tigers.

Natt Putra of Crescenta Valley (9-2, 1.90), Chris Baker of Hart (8-2, 1.53) and Jason Robitaille of Village Christian (10-2, 1.64) round out the staff.

The East lineup includes outfielder Darrell Dent of Montclair Prep (.281), a third-round selection by the Baltimore Orioles.

First baseman Amador Solis of Hoover batted .459 with nine doubles and four home runs, infielder Luis Sanchez of Hart batted .390 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs and first baseman David Nichols of Antelope Valley batted .468 with seven doubles and four home runs.

The East is coached by Tim Browne of Alemany and Tony Zarrillo of Crescenta Valley.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under.
