Silva, Four Other Titan Players Sign With Major League Teams

Five members of the Cal State Fullerton national championship baseball team have signed pro contracts and have been assigned to the minor leagues.

The Texas Rangers signed pitcher Ted Silva and assigned him to the Charleston River Dogs in the Class-A South Atlantic League. Silva, who was 18-1 and had two victories during the College World Series, reports June 26.

The Kansas City Royals signed outfielder Tony Miranda and assigned him to Spokane of the Northwest League Tuesday. Miranda finished as the Titans’ third leading hitter with a .352 average, 12 home runs and 53 runs batted in.

First baseman D.C. Olsen and pitcher Tim Dixon signed with the Montreal Expos and were assigned to Vermont in the New York-Penn League. Olsen, who played on three Fullerton teams that reached the College World Series, hit .307 last season with 14 homers and 53 RBIs. Dixon was 13-0 with a 3.47 earned-run average.

Pitcher John Mitchell, who signed with Toronto, was assigned to Medicine Hat in the Pioneer League. Mitchell was 3-0 with the Titans as a spot starter and relief pitcher.
