State Honors Go to Scott and Parker

Lindsay Parker, senior right-handed pitcher for La Canada High, was named state softball player of the year for medium-sized schools and outfielder Bill Scott of Alemany was named state sophomore baseball player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports.

Scott batted .471 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 34 runs batted in.

Parker, the Southern Section Division II player of the year, led La Canada to the division title and had an earned-run average of 0.07 and 374 strikeouts in 198 innings.

Nicole Greathouse of Buena, a standout in volleyball, basketball and softball, received honorable mention for state girls’ athlete of the year.

Monroe pitcher Wayne Nix, City Section 4-A Division player of the year who has signed with the Oakland Athletics, was the only player in the region named to the all-state baseball team.

Five area seniors were named to the all-state softball team--Parker, Alemany pitcher Sophie Contreraz, Saugus shortstop Kelli Kranz, Camarillo first baseman Jessica Ziese and Westlake outfielder Cathy Davie.
