Malin Takes It to Wire, 6-1, 6-2

Gene Malin of Woodland Hills defeated Tom Wire of Westlake Village, 6-1, 6-2, Saturday to advance to today’s 45s singles final at the United States Tennis Assn. Men’s National Hardcourt Championships at the Westlake Tennis and Swim Club.
Malin will meet Brian Cheney of Chandler, Ariz., at 11 a.m.
Malin teamed with Jack Darrah of Westlake Village and advanced to the third round in doubles before losing, 6-1, 6-4, to Ash Mitha of Kirkland, Wash., and Doug Ruffin of Olympia, Wash.
