Obituaries : Shon Michael Aselin; Senior at Westlake High

Shon Michael Aselin, a Westlake High School senior and varsity football player, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Aselin, who celebrated his 18th birthday June 16, was an avid sports fan and participant. He had coached a Westlake Village Pop Warner football team, participated on the Westlake High track team and played fullback and middle linebacker for the school’s football team. He also played bass guitar and enjoyed music.

He was active in the teen-age support group at the City of Hope, where he was treated for Hodgkin’s disease. He received a bone marrow transplant in April.

Aselin, who had been hospitalized since July 5, died Sunday at the City of Hope. He is survived by his mother, Laurie Aselin of Westlake Village; his father, Dana Aselin of Walnut, and his grandparents, Helen Belczak of Anaheim Hills, and Al and Charla Aselin of Oakhurst.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church, Somis. A private interment will follow.

Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo, is handling the arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made in Aselin’s name to the City of Hope/Pediatric Department, Attn.: Lisa Pincus, Duarte.
