Jue Ends a Long Day for Camarillo With the Long Ball, 7-4

Erik Jue, a freshman infielder from Moorpark College, hit a three-run home run in the 11th inning to lift Camarillo (34-5) to a 7-4 victory over San Jose (26-21) in the American Legion baseball state championships at Yountville.

Mike Muller, a graduate of Camarillo High, hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the score, 2-2.

Camarillo senior Mike Corral earned the victory with three scoreless innings in relief of Ventura College freshman Aaron Hanel, who gave up four runs in seven innings, striking out seven and issuing one walk.

Daniel Martinez, a graduate of Rio Mesa High, pitched a perfect 11th inning, striking out two.

Camarillo plays Lodi today at 3.

Brent Hebert and Ryan Cope scored in the top of the eighth inning to give Conejo Valley a 10-8 victory over Compton in the Little League Senior Division (14-15) Southern California state championships at Yucaipa.

Left-handed pitcher Dave Perry allowed two unearned runs in 7 1/3 innings of relief, enabling Conejo Valley to overcome a 6-2 first-inning deficit.

Cope had four hits, Kevin Mitchell added three hits, while Hebert, Perry and Robbie Cassel each had two hits.

Ramon Apodaca scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning on a grounder by Rene Gonzalez and Woodland Hills (29-10) defeated Norwalk, 6-5, in the Stan Musial League regional tournament at Downey.

Earlier in the eighth, Dave Escoto tied the score, 5-5, with a solo home run for Woodland Hills, which will play in the final today for the right to advance to the state tournament in Sacramento.

Erin Boisclair of Agoura Hills, ranked second in the nation in the girls’ 16-and-under singles division last year, is seeded sixth in the United States Tennis Assn. junior national championships, which start today in San Jose.

Top-seeded Lilia Osterloh of Canal Winchester, Ohio, defeated Boisclair, 6-1, 6-1, in the championship match of the national clay court tournament two weeks ago.

Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo are seeded seventh and eighth in the USTA boys’ 18 championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.
