OUTLOOK

The Wildcats are back among the county’s best after a two-year slump during which they failedto qualify for the Southern Section playoffs, breaking a run of four consecutive postseason appearances. Brea Olinda tied for third in the Orange League last season and defeated Century, 30-6, in the first round of the Division V playoffs. Newport Harbor, the eventual division champion, ended the Wildcats’ season, 24-8, in the second round, but they accomplished more than they had hoped entering the season. Looney again has a lot of tools at his disposal. Crysler and Murphy anchor the defensive line. Beamer, selected first-team all-league, intercepted seven passes last season. The offense revolves around the tough running of Owens, who was also a first-team all-league selection.
