COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Fien Expected to Play Against BYU
Coach Terry Donahue expects to get medical approval today to use starting quarterback Ryan Fien in Saturday’s game at Brigham Young. But approval for offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden and tight end Brian Richards is less certain.
All three are recovering from concussions suffered in last week’s season opener against Miami.
Richards’ concussion is the most severe of the three. He has headaches and a sore neck.
“It’s like a whiplash,” he said.
Neither he nor Ogden has practiced since Saturday. Ogden reports that his headaches are gone.
Should Ogden be unable to suit up Saturday, his place would be taken by Andy Meyers and Mike Rohme. Richards’ spot would be filled by Mike Grieb.
Backup tailback James Milliner sat out Wednesday’s practice because of flu.

Freshman Chris Sailer, who beat out junior Justin Sogoian for the punting job last Saturday, will keep it again this week. Sailer averaged 39.8 yards for five punts and the Bruins got a touchdown out of one of them when the Hurricane return man, Earl Little, couldn’t control it and Abdul McCullough recovered it in the end zone.
“Sogoian is right in that picture,” said Donahue of the punting situation. “That job isn’t conferred for the season.”
