SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ted Norman scored two touchdowns and Ocean View’s defense shut down Katella en route to a 13-0 victory Thursday night at Glover Stadium.

Norman led Ocean View’s offense with 179 yards on 25 carries.

For Katella (0-1) it was a game of missed opportunities and costly turnovers.

One first-quarter drive was stopped at Ocean View’s 13-yard line when quarterback John Baldridge was stripped of the ball and Ocean View’s Phil Whitcomb recovered. Then, early in the second half, on fourth and goal at the Seahawks’ two-yard line, Ocean View stopped Baldridge on a quarterback sneak, inches from the goal line.

That possession turned into a 13-play, 99-yard drive, led by Norman, who ran for 81 of those yards, including a 15-yard touchdown that gave the Seahawks a 13-0 lead.

After both teams struggled in the first quarter, Ocean View started pounding away in the second, when it capped an eight-play, 91-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown run by Norman. Jared DeLachica’s extra point gave the Seahawks a 7-0 lead.

Katella’s following drive was stopped when DeLachica intercepted a pass from Baldridge on Ocean View’s 45.

Ocean View (1-0) got inside Katella’s 10-yard line, but the Knights came up with three sacks on quarterback Jeff Taylor, knocking the Seahawks out of field-goal range.

Katella’s strongest offensive showing came on its last drive. However, a 12-play, 67-yard drive was stopped at the Seahawk 13-yard line when defensive end Mike Ketcham tackled Baldridge on fourth and seven.
