Coach: Brian Chartier (first year).
1994: 17-12 overall, 8-2 in the Sea View League; lost in the first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs to Huntington Beach.
Key returners: Kelly Campbell, 6-0, setter/outside hitter, Sr.; Julie Coombe, 5-9, middle blocker, Sr.; Melissa Ford, 5-8, setter/outside hitter, Sr.; Doris Hawley, 6-0, middle blocker, Sr.; Kathryn Rice, 5-8, outside hitter, Sr.
Key newcomers: Jordana Havulic, 5-9, outside hitter, So.; Heather Marshall, 5-9, outside hitter, Jr.
Outlook: Chartier takes over for Lance Stewart, who led the Sea Kings to two State Division I titles from 1992 to 1994. Chartier, 29, previously coached girls’ volleyball teams at Torrance and at Long Beach Jordan highs and is relishing his new job: “They have an excellent history, an excellent background,” Chartier said. Key to the Sea Kings’ success will be their eight seniors, five of whom will start. Chartier will run a 6-2 offense, with Campbell and Ford as his two setters.
