La Puente Bishop Amat’s long line of standout running backs has a new addition in Ralph Brown II, who rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown in the Lancers’ 14-6 season-opening victory over Carson. Brown also returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown. . . . Pasadena Muir Coach Mike Harrison said the Mustangs can improve after their season-opening 14-0 victory over Verbum Dei. “We were sluggish and very slow, I thought,” he said. “I didn’t call a great game, so I’ll take the blame for that, but we still have to come around.” . . . Butch Salgado of Charter Oak rushed for 170 yards in 21 carries in the Chargers’ 34-7 victory over Northview. . . . In Baldwin Park’s 29-7 victory over Rosemead, Kevin Brown rushed for 197 and three touchdowns. . . . Claremont Vivian Webb’s Heather Hamm and Ruchika Chandiok extended their doubles record to 8-1 by winning all three matches in a 10-8 victory over Diamond Bar that was the Brahmas’ first regular-season loss on the court in girls’ tennis since 1986. There have been several forfeits along the way.
