Willie Brown continues to coach the football team at Jordan while working as an assistant with the Oakland Raiders. Brown, a former all-pro defensive back with the Raiders, took over the program at Jordan last season, but when the Raiders came calling in the off-season, Brown decided to try to do both. He is training several assistants at Jordan (0-2) so one of them can take over when the Raiders abandon their El Segundo practice facility next year, making the double-duty impossible. . . . Senior Alec Avame is continuing the tradition of proficient passers at Franklin (2-0). Avame has thrown for 561 yards and seven touchdowns. . . . Dorsey’s Dennis Northcutt, a transfer running back from Washington, caught one pass for a touchdown and rushed for another in a 42-0 victory over Manual Arts last Friday. . . . Loyola quarterback Scott Walter, a junior, is out for several weeks because of a broken right hand. His replacement, junior Ray Kasper, passed for 84 yards in the Cubs’ 28-7 victory over Canyon Country Canyon on Saturday. . . . Dorsey and Crenshaw will benefit from a two-year pilot program sponsored by Orthopaedic Hospital and Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic called Team H.E.A.L. (Helping Enrich Athletes’ Lives). Among other things, both schools will be provided conditioning equipment and a full-time licensed trainer.
