Marina 14, Sunny Hills 7--Mike Williams rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns for Marina at Westminster High.

It was the first victory for first-year Marina Coach Mark Rehling after an 0-2 start, and Williams was the key. Williams, a senior tailback, accounted for most of the Vikings’ 198 yards in offense.

Williams gave the Vikings the lead with a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and they took that 7-0 advantage into the locker room. But in the second half, they gave the Lancers ample opportunity to tie the score, drawing five penalties on the first two Sunny Hills possessions.

The Lancers (0-2-1) could not cash in, though. A missed field goal ended one threat, and they turned over the ball on downs at the Viking 23 later in the quarter.

Williams, who has scored all four Marina touchdowns this season, made the score 14-0 with 6:45 left in the game as his 24-yard run set up a five-yard touchdown run on the next play. Sunny Hills quarterback Greg Garand reached the end zone on a three-yard sneak with 22 seconds left to avert the shutout.
