Yankees and Red Sox Are Rained Out; Both Will Play Doubleheaders Today
The New York Yankees were rained out Friday and will play a doubleheader today against the Detroit Tigers. That does not please Manager Buck Showalter.
One reason is that the Yankees have played two doubleheaders this season and been swept both times, by the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians. It will also force David Cone (16-8) to pitch twice on three days’ rest if the Yankees stay in the AL wild-card race.
The Boston Red Sox-Toronto Blue Jays game also was rained out and will be made up as part of a split doubleheader today, with games at 1 and 6 p.m. Manager Kevin Kennedy used the time Friday to meet with his coaching staff to try to work out a playoff roster.
