HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: WEEK 5 : It All Seems So Familiar for Sylmar in 27-6 Win Over Reseda

SYLMAR — Pop in the videotape and press PLAY.
Another 100-yard performance for Durell Price, another solid defensive performance, another victory for Sylmar High, this one a 27-6 decision over Reseda in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game Friday night at Sylmar.
Price had 121 yards in 14 carries and broke Reseda’s spirit with a 41-yard run early in the third quarter. That gallop set up a one-yard scoring plunge that put Sylmar ahead, 20-0.
“I want this to be a strong step toward a City championship,” Price said.
Reseda (3-2, 1-1 in conference play) was hurt by an interception and two fumbles, including one on a kickoff return that set up a 29-yard reverse for a touchdown by Sylmar’s Kevin Brown.
“You can’t make turnovers in a game where you’re trying to knock off an overbearing opponent,” said Reseda Coach Joel Schaeffer, whose Regents fell in similar fashion last year to Sylmar, 20-0. “You can’t wait around to see how good they are.”
Sylmar (5-0, 2-0) wasn’t perfect. The Spartans gave up 124 yards in the first half and had a touchdown run by Gerrod Taylor (eight carries for 48 yards) called back because of a clipping penalty.
The Spartans were two minutes away from a shutout when Taylor fumbled a pitch to set up Reseda’s only score.
The Regents, who lost quarterback Jamaal Washington late in the second quarter because of a knee injury, were led by Charles Shells (nine carries for 65 yards) and Armone Lochard (17 carries for 59 yards).
