Franklin 24, Verdugo Hills 17--Charlie Coronado returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for Verdugo Hills, but the host Dons couldn’t make it hold up.
Alex Adame completed 16 of 22 for 227 yards and three touchdowns, and Oscar Canela rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown in 25 carries as Franklin (4-1, 2-0) built a 24-10 lead.
Miguel Nolasco scored on a 21-yard run for Verdugo Hills (2-3, 1-1) midway through the fourth quarter, but the Panthers ran out the clock.
