Share

Laguna Beach quarterback James Kimball completed 12 of 13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Artists to a 28-0 victory Friday over El Centro Southwest.

Kimball did not start the game because of an injured right wrist, but entered early in the first quarter when quarterback Liam McDonagh went down with an injury.

The Artists (2-3) got on the scoreboard quickly when Kimball connected with Marcus Weenig for a seven-yard touchdown reception. Brad Bohn’s extra point put the Artists ahead, 7-0.

Laguna Beach’s next score came on a 13-yard pass from Kimball to Shane Loidolt.

Loidolt would score again, following a 15-yard hook-and-ladder play, when he caught a 25-yard pass from Kimball.

A third-quarter, 70-yard punt return by Aaron Whitfield rounded out the scoring.

Laguna Beach Coach Mike Roche said of Kimball, “He looked great tonight. We weren’t expecting him to play at all because of his injured right hand.”

Of Southwest’s lackluster performance, Roche said, “They’re a far cry from Costa Mesa [Laguna Beach’s opponent next Friday].”
