PREP ROUNDUP : Suzuki, Saggar Lead No. 1 Woodbridge in Tennis

Yuka Suzuki and Ribha Saggar defeated Brooke Taylor and Emily Barker, 6-4, in the final round to help top-ranked Woodbridge edge No. 6 Newport Harbor, 10-8, in a Sea View League girls’ tennis match Tuesday at Woodbridge.

The teams were even after the first and second rounds, but Suzuki and Saggar, who won their first two sets, 6-2, 6-1, beat the Sailors’ top doubles team.

Natalie Exon also swept, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5, for the Warriors (13-0, 4-0).

In another Sea View League match:

Corona del Mar 12, Santa Margarita 6--The No. 3 doubles team of Robyn Coleman and Ruchika Budraja came up big for No. 2 Corona del Mar (8-2, 3-1), winning their last two sets, 6-1, 6-4. No. 1 singles player Nina Vaughan swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, for the Sea Kings. Santa Margarita, ranked seventh in the county, is 10-2, 2-2.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 10, Foothill 8--Foothill made it close against the fourth-ranked Spartans by winning five of nine doubles sets. Katey Becker and Faye DeVera did not lose a game in singles for Villa Park (11-0, 5-0).

In the Freeway League:

Troy 11, Sonora 7--Troy defeated the Raiders for the first time in more than a decade. Irene Noguchi swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3, in singles and Kathy Vestal and Karen Corby won two of three, 6-3, 6-3, 0-6, for the Warriors (8-1, 3-1).

In the Golden West League:

Rosary 15, Ocean View 3--The No. 1 doubles team of Amanda Mroze and Barbara Norton swept for 10th-ranked Rosary, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0. Rosary improved to 10-1, 3-0.

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 9, Western 9 (Brea wins on games, 80-70)--Amanda Manton swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, to keep Brea Olinda (8-5, 4-1) in a first-place tie with Savanna.

Savanna 9, Magnolia 9 (Savanna wins on games, 85-81)--Grace Kim and Madeline Valdes swept in doubles, 7-5, 6-1, 6-2, to help Savanna (7-5, 4-1) slip past Magnolia (1-4 in league).

In the Sunset League:

Marina 11, Esperanza 7--Kelly Lambert and Heidi Harper swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, for host Marina (4-7, 1-3).

In nonleague water polo:

Long Beach Wilson 11, San Clemente 8--Wilson, ranked second in Division I, outscored the Tritons, 4-0, in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Adam Wright scored six goals for Wilson (9-2) and Andy Bailey had three for the Tritons (5-4).
