ROUNDUP : Westlake Needs Extra Sets to Break Thousand Oaks

In a showdown of unbeaten Marmonte League girls’ tennis teams, Westlake High won a round-robin tiebreaker, 11-7, to defeat visiting Thousand Oaks on Tuesday after the teams had tied in sets, 9-9, and games, 74-74.

For the Warriors (8-1, 7-0 in league play), freshman twins Brittany and Nicole Jensky swept their tiebreaker sets at No. 3 doubles, 7-5, 7-5, 7-4, after dropping two of three sets, 1-6, 3-6, 6-2, in regulation play.

At No. 2 singles, Westlake’s Helena Horak swept her regulation sets, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0, and also swept in the tiebreaker, 7-4, 7-4, 7-3.

Thousand Oaks is 5-1 in league play.

In another girls’ tennis match:

Burroughs 11, Hart 7--Jessica Perico, Christina Irinco and Shaland Romero swept their singles matches for visiting Burroughs (9-2, 5-0) in a Foothill League match. Burroughs has won seven consecutive matches.

MEN’S SOCCER

Mission 1, Hancock 0--George Aguilar scored on an assist from Omar Pasqualato with five minutes left for visiting Mission (6-0-2) in a Western State Conference opener.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pepperdine d. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 15-5, 15-10, 15-12--Nicole Sanderson had 24 kills and teammate Carrie Romer added 13 kills and four blocks to lead Pepperdine (12-6) in a nonconference match at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Cal Lutheran d. Occidental 15-8, 13-15, 15-1, 15-9--Karen Kasper had 15 kills, Darcy White added 14 and Liz Martinez had 45 assists as the host Regals (15-1, 5-0) defeated the Tigers (5-5, 3-2) in a SCIAC match.

The Regals tied a school record with their 14th consecutive victory and have not lost a home match in the last two seasons.

San Diego State d. CS Northridge, 15-10, 15-7, 15-6--Carrie Kapfenberg had 10 kills and Rene Goth added nine, but the visiting Matadors (1-20) lost for the 17th consecutive time, falling to the 18th-ranked Aztecs (16-2) in a nonconference match.
