Share

Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks High erased another big-name runner from the course record books Thursday while leading the Lancers to a 15-50 victory over Newbury Park in a Marmonte League cross-country meet at Peppertree Playfield.

Mortensen, a senior who has broken four course records and tied another in six meets this season, timed 16 minutes 58 seconds over the three-mile distance to lower the previous course best by six seconds. Newbury Park’s Melissa Sutton, the Southern Section 4-A Division champion from 1984-86, set the previous best of 17:04 in 1986.

Thousand Oaks Coach Jack Farrell held Tara Marsden and Katie Scherrei out of the meet so they could rest, but the Lancers (3-0, 3-0 in the league) still swept the top seven places.
