John Schuerholz, Atlanta general manager and vice president, when asked whether winning a World Series would be as gratifying as his first as general manager for the Kansas City Royals in 1985:

“I think it would be about equal. It’s always nice winning the first, but you’ve got to remember that Atlanta has never had a championship in any sport. This team has had the best record in the last five years. It’s deserving.”

Cleveland Manager Mike Hargrove, on what his team did wrong in the first two games:

“I think it’s real difficult when we try to hit with both eyes closed. It’s very curious as I’ve sat and watched and read and listened in the ALCS that Seattle’s lineup didn’t hit because of our pitching and now in the World Series our lineup isn’t hitting because we’re in a slump.

“I think you do a disservice to Atlanta pitching by promoting that theory to any degree. It’s a combination of being impatient at the plate and them getting us to swing at pitches they want us to swing at. It also has a little bit to do with the quality and ability of the pitchers we are facing.”

Cox, when asked whether his pitchers would be upset about not being able to hit in Cleveland: “They sure won’t be these two nights because of how cold it is.”

The wind-chill factor at game time was 29 degrees.
