After coaching football at Roosevelt for the last 14 years, David Endow said this season will be his last. “When you’re not sleeping at night, you know something is wrong,” he said last week before a game against rival Garfield. No successor has been named. . . . One of the biggest surprises in the city is Manual Arts, where first-year Coach Glenn Bell has guided the Toilers to a 4-2-1 record, 4-0 in the Coastal Conference. Manual Arts plays host to Venice on Friday afternoon with first place in the conference on the line. . . . The City Section will release its girls’ volleyball playoff brackets after a seeding committee meeting Wednesday. The regular season ends Tuesday, and the first round of the playoffs begins Nov. 6. . . . The city will soon begin distributing its own bill of rights to every student-athlete. “Among other things, we want our athletes to know that they can’t be pressured into playing only one sport all year by an overzealous coach,” said Barbara Fiege, the section’s athletic commissioner. . . . Belmont boys’ cross-country Coach Alex Carmona can’t use last names when trying to get the attention of his varsity runners. That’s because his top five boys all are named Lopez. They are Manuel, Jorge, Raul, George and Jose.
