Orange Lutheran got 246 yards rushing from running back Che Holloway and won a see-saw battle with Brethren Christian, 33-24, Saturday night at Brea Olinda High.

The Lancers (7-2, 4-0) finally put the game out of reach on a Holloway 10-yard touchdown run with 35 seconds remaining. Brethren Christian (4-5, 1-3) led most of the game until Holloway’s second touchdown, a 12-yard run about midway through the fourth quarter.

The Warriors set the pace on the first possession of the game, going 65 yards in 13 plays. David Priestley hit Kevin Cooper on a play-action pass in the corner of the end zone for a 7-0 Brethren Christian lead.

Priestley completed 18 of 37 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. However, late in the game one of his passes was intercepted by Lancer defensive back Tim Smith, ending the Warriors’ last chance to regain the lead.

After the Warriors’ first score, the Lancers answered on their second play from scrimmage. Holloway took a hand off left and broke back right and outran the defense to the corner of the end zone for a 7-7 tie.

The teams would exchange two more touchdowns, and a missed extra point by Orange Lutheran gave Brethren Christian a 21-20 halftime lead.

The victory for Orange Lutheran sets up a battle with Cerritos Valley Christian, also 4-0 in the Olympic League, next week for the league title.
