SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS

Foothill and Costa Mesa each received top seedings in the Southern Section water polo playoff pairings.

Foothill (23-1), top-ranked in Orange County, is seeded No. 1 in Division I and Costa Mesa (20-5), ranked sixth in the county, is top-seeded in Division II.

Defending champion Long Beach Wilson (21-4), Villa Park (23-4) and El Toro (21-5) are seeded second, third and fourth in the Division I draw, which starts with first-round games Thursday.

Servite (19-7), Marina (21-6) and defending champion Esperanza (16-10) also are seeded in the Division II playoffs, which begin today with two wild-card games. Saddleback (15-9) plays host to Laguna Beach (16-8) and Los Alamitos (16-9) is at Cypress (11-9). The main draw begins Friday.

In Division VI, the only other division that includes Orange County teams, Brea Olinda (19-7) is seeded fourth. Last season, the Wildcats lost in the final to Rowland Heights Rowland. Rowland (26-1) is the top-seeded team this season.

Western plays host to Cerritos Whitney in a wild-card game today. The main draw begins Friday.
