1995-1996: BOYS’ SOCCER / Soccer Preview : Six Teams To Watch : Orange
- Share via
Coach: Sal Anaya (first year).
1994-95: 14-8-5, 9-1 in the Century League; lost to South Torrance in quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division II playoffs.
Key returners: Aldo Zuniga, goalkeeper, Sr.; Victor Diaz, forward, Jr.; Stephen Gonzalez, left halfback, Jr.; Genar Lopez, center halfback, Jr.; Jose Lopez, right halfback, So.
Key newcomers: Daniel Califf, defender, So.; Alex Garcia, forward, So.
Outlook: After seven successful seasons at Orange, Eddie Carrillo left to coach at Trabuco Hills. But Carrillo didn’t exactly leave the cupboard bare. In fact, he might have left behind the most talented team in the county. Eight starters return from a team that won two playoff games. Anaya said Carrillo’s departure shook up his players a little, but Anaya still believes his team is the favorite to win the Century League. Diaz and Garcia give Orange a nice one-two scoring punch, and Zuniga is one of the top goalkeepers in the county. If the youngsters Califf and Garcia blend in with the veterans, Orange should be a strong contender for the Division II title.
