BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Katella Goes Overtime To Defeat Brea Olinda

Share

If Katella and Brea Olinda wind up playing in the championship game of Brea’s tournament Saturday, it’s hard to believe a second game could be as good as the first one.

Round 1 went to Katella, which squeezed out a 66-65 overtime victory over the Wildcats on Thursday in the third round of the Brea Boys Backyard Bash.

If the 2-0 Knights defeat Whittier Christian tonight, they will advance to Saturday’s championship game. The 1-1 Wildcats must defeat Fullerton tonight to advance.

Katella senior center Jacy Armbruster had a torrid night, pouring in 31 points against a bevy of Wildcat defenders. But it was the shot he didn’t take that ultimately decided the contest.

After a timeout with 12 seconds left in overtime, the ball was passed to Armbruster, who was surrounded by three defenders. He passed to Andrew Pike, who made his only basket of the game from about six feet away.

Brea Olinda called timeout with a second left, but was unable to get off a decent shot.
