Stunova Wins Prep Tennis Title

Zuzana Stunova of Oxnard Rio Mesa High ended a long journey Friday by winning the CIF Southern Section individual tennis singles championship with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory over top-seeded Faye DeVera of Villa Park at the Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
Stunova, a foreign exchange student from the Czech Republic, began the 110-mile trip from Oxnard at 6:30 a.m. for the 9 o’clock match.
Stunova let two match points slip by after taking a 5-4 lead in the second set, then she won the final two games.
In doubles, third-seeded Shera Wiegler and Kirsten Gross of Calabasas High defeated defending champion and top-seeded Pilar Montgomery and Sarita Yardi of Santa Barbara, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6, (8-6).
