SOCCER ROUNDUP : Oak Park’s 20 Minutes Plenty in 3-1 Victory Over Carpinteria

Oak Park High scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half and defeated Carpinteria, 3-1, in a Tri-Valley League boys’ soccer opener Thursday.

Trailing, 1-0, at halftime, visiting Oak Park (4-0-2) tied the score on Mike Chen’s goal five minutes into the second half.

Steve Eggleston scored 10 minutes later to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage and Chen scored again five minutes later.

David Newman had seven saves for Oak Park.

In other boys’ matches:

Grant 1, Van Nuys 0--Francisco Soto scored in the 70th minute on an assist from Freddy Morales for the Lancers (5-1-2, 3-1-0 in conference play) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.

Sylmar 2, Monroe 0--Carlos Cabrera scored in the first half and Ranferi Benitez added a goal after intermission as the Spartans (4-0, 4-0) won a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Monroe.

Sylmar’s Hernan Corona and Jesus Sonorio combined for five saves.

North Hollywood 3, Reseda 2--Moises Herrera scored two goals for the Huskies (1-2-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood.

The Huskies broke open a 1-1 game with two goals early in the second half.

William Diaz and Alex Acevedo scored for Reseda (2-4, 2-2).

Palmdale 4, Hart 3--Murad Dibbini scored twice, and Merrick Henry and Geoff Carlson scored once as the Falcons (3-0-2) defeated the Indians (2-2-1) in a nonleague match at Palmdale.

Garces 5, Paraclete 1--Sal Iabichella tied the nonleague match early in the second half for the Spirits (3-4) before Garces scored four unanswered goals.

Quartz Hill 5, Alemany 1--Hiram Johnson scored twice and Greg Lattimore, Eduardo Luna, and Manuel Contreras scored once for the Rebels (3-0-1) in a nonleague match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Hart 2, Palmdale 1--Danielle Hanes scored midway through the second half on a pass from Kelli Paden to give the Indians (4-0-1) a 2-0 lead in a nonleague match at Hart.

Canyon 3, Highland 1--The Cowboys (1-4-1) outshot the Bulldogs, 18-4, and got goals from Mandy Kearns, Erin Andres and Gentry Green to win a nonleague match at Highland.

Kelly Kemper scored for the Bulldogs (0-3) on a penalty kick in the first half.

Notre Dame 7, Burbank 0--Sarah Morgan scored three goals and Tracy Driscoll added two for the Knights (2-2) in a nonleague match at Notre Dame.

Karin Klemic had four saves and recorded her second shutout.
