BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Extends Streak With 86-49 Rout

The Crescenta Valley High girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games with an 86-49 victory over North Hollywood in a nonleague game Thursday night at North Hollywood.

Forward Michelle Greco scored 22 points and guard Amirah Leonard added 16 to lead five players in double figures for the Falcons (7-0), ranked No. 3 in the area by The Times.

Samantha Fargeon had 11 points and 12 rebounds for North Hollywood (1-1).

In other girls’ basketball games:

Alemany 58, Chatsworth 27--Kelli Kobayashi scored nine points and had 11 assists, and Carly Funicello had eight points and seven rebounds for Alemany (3-0) in a pool play game of the Buena tournament.

Rio Mesa 62, Royal 47--Chante Guggia had 15 points for Rio Mesa (3-0) in a pool play game of its own tournament.

Jessica Sanders scored 17 points for Royal (3-3).

Birmingham 51, Monroe 49--Tanya Silva had 20 points and Shanika Askew hit a clutch layup late in the game to lead the Braves (1-2) in a nonleague game at Birmingham.

Chaminade 56, La Reina 39--Sheila Shilafi scored 26 points for host Chaminade (3-2) in a nonleague game.

L.A. Baptist 42, Malibu 27--Deanna Bergeson had 19 points and 13 rebounds for L.A. Baptist (2-2) in a first-round game of the Nordhoff tournament.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Channel Islands 75, Hueneme 45--Bernabe Simon had 22 points--on eight-of-11 shooting from the field--and Charles Merricks added 16 for Channel Islands (5-0) in a semifinal game of its own tournament.

The Raiders will play Dorsey in tonight’s title game.

Bell-Jeff 57, Moorpark 54--Kent Dennis scored 22 points and Ruben Douglas added 20 for the Guards (4-1) in a quarterfinal game of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Center Kevin Lawrence led Moorpark (2-4) with 17 points.

Montclair Prep 75, Bishop Diego 45--Anwawn Jones had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Mounties (3-0), who led, 18-0, after one quarter in a quarterfinal game of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Tye Palonen, Greg Blessing and James Allison each had 10 points for the Cardinals (1-2).

Oak Park 89, Calabasas 73--Forward Randy Gastwirt scored 31 points for the Eagles (2-1) in a quarterfinal game of the Faith Baptist tournament. Bobby Baumann scored 24 points for the Coyotes (5-1).

John Murphy added 19 points for Oak Park, which plays Montclair Prep today.

Agoura 80, Ventura 68--Brian Laibow scored 24 points--including five three-point baskets--for the Chargers (2-1) in a consolation game of the Beverly Hills tournament.

Charles Dixon had 25 points for the Cougars (0-2), who hit eight of 17 free throws.

Hart 66, Glendale 51--Cory Johnson had 22 points, 15 rebounds and four assists for the Indians in a consolation game in the Beverly Hills tournament.

Trailing, 41-40, after three quarters, Hart (4-2) took the lead early in the fourth quarter and then pulled away by hitting 13 of 16 free throws in the final period. Johnson was six of six from the line in the fourth quarter.

Steve Avetyan had 33 points for Glendale (2-4).

Bellflower 60, Burbank 58--Matt Baker scored 15 points and Juni Williams 14 for Burbank (1-4) in a nonleague game.

Kilpatrick 60, Villanova 53--Center Dwayne Doig scored 33 points for the visiting Mustangs (1-1) in a nonleague game.

Matt LaVere had 23 points--including five three-pointers-- and grabbed nine rebounds for Villanova (0-2). Justin Yabrof added 11 points and nine rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 66, Kings River 58--Wendell Nunnery had 18 points and eight rebounds, and his brother, Tim Nunnery, added 16 points for the Raiders (4-5) in a Cuesta tournament first-round game.
