COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Scheuerman Leads Rustlers in Semifinal

Rod Scheuerman scored 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Golden West to a 73-67 victory over Imperial Valley in the semifinals of the Riverside men’s basketball tournament Friday.

The Rustlers move into the final to face Riverside at 7 tonight.

Ray Jimmerson had 18 points for Golden West (8-5).

Todd Anderson scored 23 for Imperial Valley.

In another Riverside tournament game:

Riverside 82, Irvine Valley 65--Irvine Valley was outscored by 21 points in the first half after shooting only 29.6%. Brandon Hearvey and Demitrius Zeigler each scored 13 pointsand Tony Booten had 10 for the Lasers (5-5).

Riverside (13-2), which forced 22 Irvine Valley turnovers, was led by Gary Williams with 24 points and Sean White with 21.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Orange Coast 82, El Camino 72--Matt Ambrose had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Duane Curtis had 22 points for host Orange Coast (4-6), which took control by outscoring El Camino, 16-5, to open the second half.

Draper Mitchell added 18 points for the Pirates. El Camino is 1-8.

Rancho Santiago 97, Pomona-Pitzer JV 67--LaByron Clayton had 17 points and nine rebounds and Marcus Lemons had 14 points for Rancho Santiago (7-3), which outscored the Pomona-Pitzer JV, 58-38, in the second half.

In the Los Angeles Valley women’s tournament:

Golden West 49, Mt. San Antonio 47--Leila Ryan scored with 30 seconds remaining to make it, 47-47, then made two free throws with one second remaining to win it for the Rustlers (3-6). Blythe Linsey had 20 points and 11 rebounds for Golden West, which will play in the consolation final.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cerritos 71, Fullerton 70 (OT)--Tanisha Coleman scored six of Cerritos’s eight overtime points to lead the Eagles (10-2). Coleman finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds.
