SANTA BARBARA — Atascadero spotted Carpinteria an early 14-point lead, then came back on the running of Alan Bell for a 43-26 victory in the Southern Section Division IX football championship game Saturday night at Santa Barbara City College.
Bell, returning to full-time play after sitting out four games because of an ankle injury, rushed for 248 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Greyhounds.
Atascadero (14-0) won its 21st game in a row and its third consecutive Division IX championship.
Carpinteria (11-3) ended its winning streak at 11 games.
Carpinteria scored after Atascadero fumbled the opening kickoff. Two plays later, Jeff Shaw scored on a five-yard run.
Bell, who scored touchdowns on runs of five, one and eight yards, put Atascadero ahead to stay at 15-14 with a two-point conversion run.
