BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Keeps Rolling

The Crescenta Valley High girls’ basketball team, which earlier in the year broke the school single-game scoring record, duplicated the feat Saturday with a 111-55 trouncing of Crossroads in a nonleague game at Crescenta Valley.

Michelle Greco scored 28 points and had seven assists while Amirah Leonard scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. It was the first time in school history the Falcons (7-0) had broken the 100-point total.

Laura Hanson had 22 points for the Roadrunners (1-3).

Simi Valley 70, St. Lucy’s 58--Tawnee Cooper scored 14 of her 30 points in the first quarter as the Pioneers took an early 17-point lead in the championship game of the St. Lucy’s tournament.

Jaime Griffin scored 20 points for Simi Valley (6-0). Stacey Nuverman had 23 points and 11 rebounds for St. Lucy’s (4-1).

Royal 75, Lompoc 51--Michelle Berlin had 23 points and Alicia Weber added 13 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists for the Highlanders (4-4), who took seventh place at the San Marcos-Rio Mesa tournament.

Highland 47, Ridgeview 22--Tiffany Winkfield and Mae Bidaure each scored 12 points for Highland (3-4) in the South Bakersfield tournament consolation final.

Fillmore 60, Nordhoff 47--The Rangers were 0 for 12 from the field in the third quarter and Fillmore pulled away to win the 20th Nordhoff tournament.

Julie Arundell scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Fillmore.

Erin Barker scored 17 points for the Rangers.

BOYS

Bell-Jeff 60, Montclair Prep 48--Sophomore Rueben Douglas scored 27 points and had eight steals for Bell-Jeff in the championship game of the Faith Baptist tournament.

Sophomore center Elihu Cobb added 15 points and freshman Kent Dennis 13 for Bell-Jeff (6-1), which held the Mounties’ high-powered offense to 16 points in the first half.

Senior forward Anwawn Jones led Montclair Prep (4-1), the defending state Division V champion, with 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Guards sank 14 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Moorpark 69, Calabasas 47--Center Kevin Lawrence scored 31 points including four slam dunks and also grabbed 10 rebounds as the Musketeers (4-4) took fifth place in the Faith Baptist tournament.

Forward Gavin Citron scored 17 points for the Coyotes (6-2), who were outscored, 19-6, in the second quarter.

Chaminade 69, Whitewater 50--Torey Ellis had 26 points and six steals to lead the Eagles (4-4) to consolation championship at the Faith Baptist tournament.

Justin Stewart had 16 points and Arash Safaei added 13 for Chaminade.

Santa Clara 62, La Canada 55--Lukman Dotson scored 25 points and Adam Lopez added 20 for the Saints (5-1) in a nonleague game at La Canada.

Jason Choi scored 14 points and Todd Crane added 13 for La Canada (3-3).

Buena 75, Agoura 73--The Bulldogs outscored the Chargers, 20-16, in the fourth quarter to win the consolation final of the Beverly Hills tournament. Ceneka Shaw scored 27 points for Buena. Josh Portnoy had 22 for Agoura.

Birmingham 65, Culver City 53--Sophomore Ellis Richardson had 37 points and eight rebounds to lead the Braves (4-2) to seventh place at the Beverly Hills tournament.

Hart 54, Loyola 49--Cory Johnson had 15 points for the Indians (5-3) in the Beverly Hills tournament consolation bracket third-place game.

WOMEN

Pepperdine 83, Idaho St. 53--Sara Pierce scored 17 points and Tabitha Bailey and Beatrice Godoy each added 14 for the host Waves (3-3) in a nonconference game.

MEN

West Valley 72, Moorpark 57--The Raiders (5-6) were outscored, 41-14, in the second half of the Mid-State tournament championship game at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Brady Mertes scored 15 points and Tim Nunnery added 14 for Moorpark.

Guard Scott Reeves scored 21 points on seven three-point baskets for West Valley (9-2).
