BASKETBALL ROUNDUP

Moorpark 61, Burroughs 49--Sophomore Kevin Lawrence had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Musketeers (7-4) in pool play at the La Canada tournament.

J.K. Scott scored 14 points for Burroughs (4-2), which made only 17 of 67 shots.

Burbank 72, S.F. Mission 62--Matt Baker and Don Allado each scored 20 points for the Bulldogs (3-5) in pool play of the Berkeley tournament.

Allado had eight rebounds and Tom Ngo had 10 assists. Juni Williams added 15 points.

Van Nuys 78, Hamilton 70--Kris Huddle scored 29 points as the Wolves (2-3) took third place in the Hamilton tournament. Onaje Longmire added 21 points.

Palmdale 72, Saugus 55--Steve Eernisse had 27 points and eight rebounds, and Theo Carino added 15 points and six steals for the Falcons (5-2).

Littlerock 65, Montclair Prep 63--Marquis Drain had 26 points for the Lobos (3-4) in a nonleague game.

Montclair Prep (6-2), playing without Anwawn Jones, last season’s Southern Section Division V player of the year, lost a five-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Thousand Oaks 67, Simi Valley 65--Matt Fraisse’s three-point basket with eight seconds to play gave the Lancers a Marmonte League victory and snapped Simi Valley’s six-game winning streak.

Thousand Oaks (5-3, 1-1) made 11 three-pointers. Simi Valley made nine, including six by Scott Blough, who scored 19 points.

Pero Vasiljevic scored 22 points for the Pioneers (6-1, 1-1). Mike Lauer had 16 for Thousand Oaks.

Westlake 71, Camarillo 67--Steve Aylsworth scored 17 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and Jake Stewart had 13 of his 17 points in the quarter as the Warriors (3-2, 1-1) rallied from a 24-point third-period deficit in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Jason Gaines sank a three-point shot with 22 seconds remaining to put the Warriors ahead for good, 69-67, and added two free throws with eight seconds left.

Royal 84, Newbury Park 62--Ryan Nielsen had 25 points and 20 rebounds for Royal (7-2, 2-0) in a Marmonte League game.

Marques Pena added 21 points for Royal. Charles Stanton had 14 points for Newbury Park.

La Canada 57, St. Francis 39--Matthew Moore scored 19 points for the Spartans (5-3) in pool play of the La Canada tournament.

Anthony Johnson scored 19 points for St. Francis (1-5).

GIRLS

Taft 87, Van Nuys 57--Nyoki McKeith scored 29 points and Mona Calhoun added 23 for the Toreadors (6-0) in a nonleague game at Van Nuys.

Lynn Berry had 18 points, 18 rebounds and 11 steals for Van Nuys (1-2).

Ventura 55, Canyon 52--The Cougars (3-3) lost nearly all of a 12-point third-quarter lead but hung on in pool play at the Simi Valley tournament.

Christine Keysor had 19 points and six rebounds for Canyon (1-7).

Littlerock 55, Montclair Prep 40--Cheree Hicks had 21 points and 22 rebounds for the Lobos.

Notre Dame 55, Pasadena Poly 37--Stacey Phillips had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (6-2) in the semifinals of the Burroughs tournament.

MEN

Valley 81, Rio Hondo 55--The Monarchs (9-4) had a 13-3 run to begin the game and advanced to the consolation final of the Pasadena tournament.

Wil O’Neal scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds. Mike Farmer added 13 points for the Monarchs.

Canyons 98, Southwest 92--Brent Stout scored 25 points, and Harry Marks and Bill Bedgood each scored 23 for the Cougars (4-8) in the Glendale tournament.

Antelope Valley 65, Kings River 58--Brandon McIntire hit seven three-pointers while scoring 23 points for the Marauders (10-4) in the semifinals of the Sequoia tournament at College of the Sequoias.

WOMEN

Valley College 70, Fullerton 65--Freshman forward Shawanda Hotchkiss had 17 points for the Monarchs (8-4) in the first round of the Orange Coast tournament.
