PREP ROUNDUP : Late Goal Does Job for Edison

Nicholas Phelps scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway with less than a minute to play, giving Edison a 1-0 victory over Santa Monica in the third-place game of the South Torrance boys’ soccer tournament.
Goalkeeper Dave Van Reusen stopped four shots for his fifth shutout of the season for the Chargers (4-5-3).
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Anaheim 3, La Habra 0--Nelson Ramos, Ramon Soto and Alvaro Cano each scored second-half goals for visiting Anaheim (3-1-4). La Habra is 2-2-1. Anaheim goalie Jesus Azevedo had three saves in his second shutout.
Sunny Hills 1, Brea Olinda 1--Todd Deck scored on a breakaway in the 44th minute for host Brea Olinda (3-2-2). Sunny Hills (5-2-2) tied it when Mike Funk scored on a header off Bobby Montes’ corner kick in the 48th minute.
In the Claremont girls’ soccer tournament:
Claremont 2, Foothill 1--Lauren Wensel scored with about seven minutes left in regulation to cut the lead to 2-1 for Foothill (5-3-1), which was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Wensel and Mara Logan scored as Foothill beat Torrance, 2-1, earlier in the day.
Fullerton 5, Pomona Catholic 0--Marianne Emigh scored two goals and Shawna Ramsay, Alissa Sorrell and Nicole Hachler each had one for Fullerton (6-5-1) in the consolation game.
In the second game, Emigh scored in the first half for her team-leading sixth of the season, but Monrovia scored twice in the second half and won, 3-1. Goalkeeper Dawn Bitsie, who earned her fourth shutout of the season in the earlier game, had 14 saves against Monrovia.
