Ventura police officers were searching for an unidentified man who shot two Saticoy residents early Thursday.
According to authorities, Mario Mendez, 22, and a 17-year-old, whose name was not released, were driving through an apartment complex in the 11000 block of Citrus Avenue when someone fired a gun at them.
The suspect, apparently on foot, got away. The two victims were taken to Ventura County Medical Center, police said.
Mendez, who was shot in the leg, was in fair condition late Thursday, while the 17-year-old suffered severe injuries to his back and may be paralyzed, said Sgt. Bob Velez.
Police did not know the cause of the shooting and said an investigation was continuing.
