GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills’ Balance Beats El Dorado, 57-48

Four Laguna Hills players scored in double figures to lead the eighth-ranked Hawks to a 57-48 victory over seventh-ranked El Dorado in the first round of the Marina girls’ basketball tournament Wednesday.

Tamara Inoue scored 13 points, Tayyiba Haneef 12, Whitney Houser 11 and Mary Tims 10 for Laguna Hills (8-1). Tims scored six of the Hawks’ first eight points on the way to a 10-2 lead.

El Dorado (7-2) cut an 11-point third-quarter deficit to four in the fourth quarter, 44-40, but didn’t get closer.

Heather Cunningham scored 23 and Jamie Nebeker 15 for El Dorado.

In other Marina tournament games:

Fountain Valley 68, Lakewood 54--Jennifer Ludwicki had 25 points for No. 2 Fountain Valley (11-1).

Edison 54, East Anchorage (Alaska) 36--Edison took an 18-4 first-quarter lead. Marie Philman scored 22 points for the fifth-ranked Chargers.

Mater Dei 76, Newport Harbor 44--Third-ranked Mater Dei took a 46-15 halftime lead. Melody Peterson scored 25 points for the Monarchs. M.E. Clayton scored 15 for Newport Harbor.

Marina 67, Long Beach Wilson 53--Kirsten Cappel scored a season-high 25 to lead No. 6 Marina (11-0).
