TENNIS ROUNDUP : Tustin’s Hol Advances to the Semifinals

Joost Hol of Tustin defeated Nicholas Reney of Mercer Island, Wash., 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals in the 16-year-old boys’ division of the Fiesta Bowl Junior National Tournament in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Hol plays top-seeded Jose Lieberman, who defeated Dana Point’s Brandon Falon, 6-1, 6-3, at 10 a.m. today at the Phoenix Tennis Center.

Fullerton’s Ryan Moore lost to Dylan Mann of Winnetka, Ill., 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the boys’ 18-year-old division. Fourteenth-seeded Manual Lastra of Reno upset third-seeded Cody Jackson of Westminster in the boys’ 14-year-old division.

Santa Ana’s Arpi Kojian lost to second-seeded Kelly Perry of San Diego, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, in the girls’ 12-year-old division.

Julian Foxon of UC Irvine advanced as far as the semifinals before losing Friday in the 23rd Annual Freedom Bowl Intercollegiate Tennis Classic at Sunny Hills Racquet Club in Fullerton.

Foxon beat Ramsey Gerber of Cal State San Bernardino, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the quarterfinals but lost to Bryan Juinio of Fresno State. Foxon won the first set, 4-6, but lost the next two, 0-6, 3-6.

Robin Walker of UCI lost in the consolation semifinals to Alex Suga of Hawaii, 7-6, 6-3. Walker advanced to the semifinals by defeating Northern Arizona’s Fred Debeule, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.
