Share

A fire destroyed a vacant duplex unit and caused minor damage to the attached home Wednesday evening, temporarily displacing one couple, fire and Red Cross officials said.

The fire started about 6:20 p.m. in the vacant unit at 26502 Bay Tree Road. Red Cross spokeswoman Kari Garcia said that unit was destroyed. The neighboring unit, occupied by Rudy and Kathy Tovar, sustained minor damage, she said.

The Tovars were not home when the fire started. Red Cross officials provided them with hotel and meal vouchers Thursday night but said their home was not seriously damaged.
